What changes in 2027

Three changes in the regulation.

The Technical Regulation of the Dakar Classic 2027 has been adjusted by the ASO in three areas compared to the previous year. Two concern mandatory safety equipment. One concerns the mounting of the navigation instruments in the vehicle.

01 · Safety

Mandatory safety equipment

An adjustment to the mandatory safety equipment on the vehicle. Details in the PDF, in the section on mandatory equipment.

02 · Safety

Second safety adjustment

A further change to mandatory safety equipment. Both points together translate into concrete retrofits before the technical scrutineering in Barcelona.

03 · Navigation

Mounting of navigation instruments

A specification for mounting the navigation instruments in the cockpit. Concerns position and fixation. Details in the Technical Regulation.

A complete, annotated overview of all three changes with DELTA recommendations for implementing them on your vehicle is provided to customers as part of the preparation for 2027.

Regulation at a glance

Technical and Sporting Regulation.

The Dakar Classic 2027 is governed by two separate documents issued by the ASO. The Technical Regulation concerns the vehicle. The Sporting Regulation concerns the conduct of the competition.

01 · Technical Regulation

The vehicle.

Everything that concerns the vehicle itself. What you have to build, install and present before turning up to scrutineering in Barcelona.

  • Vehicle eligibility and period classification
  • Engine and drivetrain
  • Suspension and wheels
  • Safety cage and fire extinguishing systems
  • Seat belts and harness systems
  • Helmets and protective clothing
  • Mandatory safety and survival equipment
  • Navigation instruments

In short: how your car has to look and how it has to be built before you roll up in Barcelona.

02 · Sporting Regulation

The procedure.

Everything to do with running the rally. From the moment of entry through to the finish line.

  • Entry procedure and deadlines
  • Race format and stage structure
  • Timekeeping and regularity rules
  • Penalties and disqualifications
  • Assistance rules in the bivouac
  • Overall classification system

In short: how the event runs. From the first application to the finish.

ASO entry

Entry and technical scrutineering.

Participation in the Dakar Classic 2027 requires a complete ASO entry, including technical vehicle scrutineering in Barcelona before shipping to Saudi Arabia. All safety equipment must be installed and verified before scrutineering. Missing or non-compliant equipment can delay or prevent the shipment of your vehicle.

The ASO entry includes several deadlines for documentation, payments, spare-parts shipping and crew registration. These run on separate timelines and must all be tracked carefully.

DELTA handles the entire ASO entry process. All documents, all deadlines, the entire communication. You focus on driving.
